Last weekend I was sitting at my laptop, clearly focused on finishing a document.
My seven year old embarked on a conversation that I heard and acknowledged with “mmm”, and “ok”.
“Great lets go. I want one from the new air series or maybe Triggerhappy”. He exclaimed with great gusto.
My document was complete, but I had inadvertently agreed to buy a Skylanders character –
for a Wii Game.
I think I can multi-task, and I am sure I can when it comes to some activities, but human dialogue is something else. With digital media requiring instant response, it is easy to become distracted.
The lesson to me in this is to make the most of all conversations whether they are with family, friends, strangers, or colleagues. Be present. Be in the moment. Look them in the eye.
